JAMAICA DEBATES COMMISSION SAYS IT IS READY FOR LEADERS DEBATE

Kingston. August 27, 2025.

The Jamaica Debates Commission, JDC, says it is ready for the leaders debate
between Jamaica Labour Party leader and Prime Minister, Dr. Andrew Holness and People’s National Party
President Mark Golding, scheduled to take place on Thursday evening at 9.00 o’clock at the Creative Productions
and Training Centre, CPTC Studios in Kingston.

The 90-minute debate is the culmination of the three debates in the General Election Debates 2025 series in which
the parties engaged in two teams debates on Saturday and Tuesday last on social issues and the economy,
respectively.

For the leaders’ debate the party leaders will face questions from journalists Dionne Jackson-Miller of the
RJRGLEANER Communications Group, Giovanni Dennis of CVM Television and from members of the public, via
social media, moderated by Amoy Harriott of CVM TV. Archibald Gordon of TVJ will be the moderator.

In keeping with Best Practice, the JDC advises that it has also confirmed two sign-language interpreters who are
from the deaf community for the leaders’ debate. Chairman, Brian Schmidt says “The JDC would like to thank Jane
Litchmore-Grant for her work as sign language interpreter for Tuesday night’s debate on The Economy. Mrs.
Litchmore-Grant formerly of the Jamaica Association of the Deaf, JAD, is known for providing sign language
interpretation services to the former Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation, JBC and Television Jamaica, TVJ.”

The JDC said she offered to assist in the debates at the last minute to ensure that there were services available to
the deaf community.

In each of the first two debates more than twenty questions were posed to the debaters across a wide range of
areas, including economic growth strategies, taxation policy approaches, wage negotiations for public sector
workers, strategies to stimulate economic growth, matters relating to health, education, the environment, public
beach access and more.

The JDC has been staging national political debates since 2002.
