PRESS RELEASE

The PNP and JLP have agreed to meet in 2 political debates organized and staged by the Jamaica Debates Commission ahead of the imminent Local Government election.

Kingston, November 1, 2016:  The agreement to debate was signed by on behalf of the two parties by (Dr Horace Chang) representing the Jamaica Labour Party and (Mr. Julian Robinson) representing the Peoples National Party on (Tuesday November 1) at the offices of the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce. The agreement is an update of one signed in February 2015 when the local government elections were expected to be held by end of June of that year.

JDC Chairman Noel daCosta, welcomed the decision, noting that the Jamaican electorate stood to benefit from the debate inasmuch as it provides an opportunity to compare the competing visions of the two parties.

The debates will be staged in the studio of the Creative Production and Training Centre (CPTC) and will take the form of 3-person-per-team debates. Questions will be posed by a panel of journalists, and the JDC plans to supplement those questions with queries sourced from the general public via social media platforms.

The JDC will stage a press conference in the near future to outline comprehensive details of the debates.
