12:00 Noon, Saturday February 12, 2016: The Jamaica Debates Commission (JDC) has advised that it is “encouraged” by an undertaking by the Peoples’ National Party General Secretary, Mr. Paul Burke, to revert to the Commission on Monday, February 15, with a response to the JDC’s request to reconsider its position on participating in the three proposed debates.
On Friday the JDC wrote to the PNP advising that while it was no longer able to commit to organizing and staging the 1st in a series of political debates between the PNP and the JLP on Tuesday February 16 because it had not received a response from the party and thus had inadequate time for preparation, it was nonetheless willing to stage the debates providing both parties were in agreement on the dates.
The JDC will continue to liaise with General Secretary Burke and his JLP Counterpart, Dr. Horace Chang.
