Statement by Brian Schmidt, Chairman, Jamaica Debates 
Commission, Thursday 2nd October, 2026

 

The Jamaica Debates Commission extends its deepest condolences to the family 
and friends of our longstanding colleague Brian St. Juste on his passing, October 2, 2026.

Mr. St. Juste contributed his skills as a director/producer to the JDC’s pre general election and pre- Municipal election debates since 2007. This he did in his voluntary capacity as resource person for production and broadcast in the national interest. He was a key member of Debates International, a coalition of entities drawn from 40+ countries and one of the team that provided technical support to national bodies organizing political debates in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific islands. 

Similarly, he was always amenable to sharing the skill and knowledge that the had acquired over his long experience in organizing live broadcasts, commercial projects and filming sporting and national events.
The US Based Commission for Presidential Debates (CPD) in a statement today stated, " Thank you for sharing him. The CPD wouldn't be where or who we are without Brian".
