Clean Sweep in Barbados General Elections for The Barbados Labour Party (BLP)
January 20, 2022
The Barbados Labour Party (BLP) has once again accomplished a clean sweep of all the island nation’s 30 parliamentary seats in the January 19 general elections, giving BLP leader Mia Mottley her second consecutive term in office as Prime Minister. The party previously won all seats in the 2018 elections.
The result, arising from a snap election called almost 18 months before it was constitutionally due, caps one of the most eventful periods in the country’s history. In late 2021, Barbados removed the Queen of England as its Head of State and became the world’s newest Republic.
